A commercial motorcyclist was reportedly killed, in Yenagoa, the Bayelsa State capital, on Wednesday, by a vehicle in the convoy of the state governor, Timipre Sylva.
Witnesses said the incident occurred at the popularly PDP Road Junction, along Isaac Boro expressway, around 3.30pm.
They claimed the victim was abandoned as no one in the convoy stopped to attend to him and later died on the spot.
But, the Chief Press Secretary to the governor, Doifie Ola, who confirmed the incident, however, denied that the victim was left to die.
The Nigerian Compass learnt that Sylva was on his way to Port Harcourt, to attend the wedding ceremony of the daughters of Chief Johnny Turner, the chairman of the board of the Federal Inland Waterways.
Ola explained that the victim, whose identity had not been ascertained, was coming from the opposite direction, when he swerved and ran into the convoy.
He said the governor, who was not aware of the incident, however, ordered that he should be taken to the Government House Clinic, Yenagoa, for prompt medical attention, immediately it was brought to his notice.
When asked about the condition of the victim, Ola retorted that it was not his duty to comment on his condition.
But, sources at the Government House Clinic disclosed that the victim had not have survived the accident.
Residents have constantly cried out over the excessive speed of the governor’s convoy, as well as the men of the Joint Task Force (JTF), whose headquarters is in Yenagoa, on the Mbiama-Yenegao road and Isaac Boro expressway, the two major highways in the state.

Na wa o. That's a bad one for the governor and his press people. They should have been more sensitive on the issue. Whether he was flying to the moon or just going down the road, as soon as he was told of it, he should have personally monitored the condition of the man. That's just too bad. It's that "I don't care. It's not my fault" behavior. Sucks  Sad
