The affected committees are the Committee on Agriculture and Natural Resources and the Committee on Local Government, Security and Chieftaincy Affairs.
The drama of the rejection began at the commencement of the house plenary sitting as soon as the two committee chairmen, Mr Iyo Kenneth and Mr Terhile Ayua, led the debate of their reports .
However, no sooner did they began than members noted that their reports were full of errors of "omission and commission" .
Thereafter, members stood up one after the other to express their misgivings on the the way the reports were written.
Dr Stephen Onmeje, the Deputy Speaker, who fired the first salvo, said that reports must be properly written before they could be accepted, adding that a standard ought to be set in this regard.
In his own contribution, Mr Paul Biam, the Majority Leader, also towed the line of the deputy speaker by insisting that the two reports be stood down in order to serve as a deterrent to others who might likely produce similar shoddy jobs in future.
Other members who also insisted that the reports be stood down include Mr James Ochojela, Benjamin Adanyi, Ianna Jato among others.
However, Mr Adugu Gbileve, the Minority Leader and Benjamin Nungwa vehemently opposed the move to refer the reports back to the committees.
The duo pleaded that corrections could be made after presentation and a final copy that would be devoid of errors could then be produced and kept in the library for research and other purposes.
In his ruling, the speaker reprimanded the committees for presenting reports that were full of typographical errors.
He also charged committee secretaries to be up and doing in order to avert query should such an incident repeat itself.
The speaker further admonished committee members to be doing thorough proof-reading of their committee reports so as to avoid unforeseen embarrassment during debates.
He added that henceforth, queries would be given to secretaries whenever they failed to do their assigned responsibilities well.
The speaker directed that the reports be stood down "because of the inefficiency and inability of the committee secretaries to do proper proof-reading of their reports before presenting them to the house".
