On Saturday, Peter Obi, the former presidential candidate of the Labour Party, made a poignant visit to the family of the late Nollywood actor, Junior Pope. This gesture from Obi was a testament to his support and sympathy for the bereaved family during this trying period.

Gistmania reports that Junior Pope, whose real name was JohnPaul Odonwodo, was laid to rest on Friday in his hometown of Ikpogwu Ukehe, located in Nsukka, Enugu State. The burial ceremony was a solemn occasion, drawing family, friends, and fans who came to pay their final respects to the beloved actor.

During his visit, Peter Obi was seen consoling the actor’s children and their mother, offering words of comfort and encouragement. He took the time to pose for photographs with the family and signed the condolence register, leaving a heartfelt message of support. Accompanying Obi was actor and politician Kenneth Okonkwo, adding a significant presence to the visit.

The body of 43-year-old Junior Pope arrived in his village early on Friday, followed by a funeral service held at Saint Peter’s Catholic Church, Ukehe. The service included a brief sermon, where the officiating priest offered prayers for the family, reflecting on the transient nature of life with the words, “the Lord gives and the Lord taketh.”

The atmosphere was filled with grief as Junior Pope's family, friends, and colleagues struggled to hold back tears. His body, resting in a white casket, was solemnly lowered into the ground in his compound after the church service. The funeral was attended by several Nollywood celebrities, including Zubby Michael, Ruby Ojiakor, Linc Edochie, Queen Wokoma, Chinwe Owoh, and Rita Edochie, who all came to bid their final farewells.

To ensure the privacy and security of the mourners, the venue was closely guarded by police and local vigilante groups. Unauthorized individuals were prevented from taking pictures or making video recordings, respecting the solemnity of the occasion.

Junior Pope's tragic death, alongside four others, occurred on April 10, when he drowned. He is survived by his wife, Jennifer Awele, whom he married in November 2014, and their three children.

Peter Obi's visit has been seen as a significant act of empathy and solidarity, resonating deeply with the family and the community. It underscores the importance of compassion and support during times of profound loss, reminding everyone of the power of unity and shared humanity in moments of grief.
