A middle aged man, Ikenna Anyanwu, has been jailed for three years by a Port Harcourt Magistrate Court for stealing 13 packets of recharge cards.
It was gathered that the convict, 27-year-old  Ikenna Anyanwu, stole the recharge cards valued at N140, 000.00 and the sum of N473, 000 from one Okechukwu Eze on May 14, 2012, along LNG road, Amadi Ama, Port Harcourt.

The convict was arraigned over a three count charge. The prosecutor had earlier told the court that the offence was punishable under Section 390(9) Cap C38 Vol. II Laws of Rivers State, 1999. Anyanwu pleaded guilty to one of the charges.

Chief Magistrate, I.F Iyiabo, while delivering judgment, said the accused made a confessional statement during prosecution, and that in the eyes of the law, if an accused person accepts that he committed an offence, then there is no need for further proof on the matter.

“Having found the accused guilty on a one count charge, I therefore sentence him to three years imprisonment without an option of fine,” he said.
