A 22-year-old British national, Campell Kaizra Kofi Johannes Slifer, has been arrested at Murtala Muhammed International Airport (MMIA), Ikeja, Lagos, while attempting to smuggle a large quantity of cannabis into Nigeria.
According to a statement issued on Sunday by Femi Babafemi, Director of Media and Advocacy for the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Slifer was intercepted on Friday, May 9, by operatives of the agency shortly after arriving from Thailand via Doha on a Qatar Airways flight.
Upon inspection, NDLEA officers discovered two suitcases in his possession containing 35 parcels of Loud, a potent variant of cannabis, weighing a total of 37.6 kilograms.
Slifer reportedly confessed during preliminary interrogation that he had previously been convicted twice in the United Kingdom for drug trafficking and robbery. He further revealed that he had been recruited in London to travel to Thailand and transport the illegal substance to Nigeria.
The NDLEA said investigations are ongoing as the agency continues its clampdown on international drug trafficking syndicates.
