In a daring interception, operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) have busted a fuel tanker ingeniously modified to transport illicit drugs across Nigeria, exposing a new trend in narcotics trafficking.
The startling discovery was made during a stop-and-search operation conducted by NDLEA officers who detected a concealed compartment ingeniously engineered beneath the tanker’s fuel storage area.
Mr. Femi Babafemi, the agency’s Director of Media and Advocacy, revealed the breakthrough in a post shared on X.com (formerly Twitter) on Sunday. He described the operation as part of a broader clampdown on sophisticated drug smuggling tactics.
The NDLEA has not disclosed the specific type or quantity of drugs found but described the operation as part of an ongoing effort to dismantle drug trafficking networks employing increasingly deceptive methods.
Authorities say investigations are underway, and arrests are expected as the agency works to trace the source and intended destination of the concealed narcotics.
