An Instagram vendor has come under fire after posting a visibly worn-out mattress for sale at a staggering price of ₦135,000, triggering widespread backlash and ridicule across social media platforms.
The controversial listing, uploaded by resale page @ojb_declutter, showed the dilapidated mattress with torn edges, deep stains, and sagging fabric—yet carried a hefty price tag more commonly associated with high-end bedding.
According to the vendor, the mattress was listed on behalf of a client living around Orchid Road, Lekki, who described the item as an “urgent pick.” However, the listing quickly spiraled into a viral talking point, as users slammed both the condition of the mattress and the unrealistic pricing amid Nigeria’s biting economic climate.
In a caption accompanying the post, the vendor pleaded with clients to show empathy and better judgment when submitting items for sale:
EJO (PLEASE), if you can’t use it or gift it out to anyone, please don’t bring it to us please. The economy is truly hard but let’s also add emotions and human feelings to whatever we are selling. We muove.”
Despite the cautionary tone, the comment section quickly exploded with sarcastic remarks, with users questioning whether the mattress had healing powers or historical value to justify the price. Some joked that the item should have been discarded, not marketed.
While @ojb_declutter has gained a reputation for helping Lagos residents resell gently-used household items, this listing appears to have crossed a line for many, serving as a cautionary tale about price-gouging and product quality in the online resale market.
The vendor has not yet removed the post but has since limited comments due to the volume of negative feedback.
