The Kebbi State Commander of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA), Mr. Ulo Okon Okon, has said that drug abuse in the state has taken a worrisome dimension with increase in the consumption of non-conventional substances. Speaking during the closing ceremony of this year’s International Day Against Drug Abuse and Illicit Drug Trafficking, Okon called on the state government to promulgate a law banning possession and dealing in substances of addiction and all syrups with codeine except on doctors’ prescription. He lamented that non-conventional substances such as Hexol, Ergomentrin, Lexotan, Tutolin and Benylin with codeine are being abused, adding that youths in the state have also become addicted to the abuse of other expectorants for reasons other than medical.
