The Alhaji Sadiq Massala-led faction of the All Progressives Grand Alliance on Wednesday challenged the national chairman of the party, Chief Victor Umeh, to “respond to the 13-point allegation” against him and “stop chasing shadows.”

Massala and his group, including the acting national secretary, Dr. Ifedi Okwena, and South-East Vice Chairman, Mr. Morgan Anyaelechi, spoke with journalists in Abuja in response to claims by Umeh that members of the National Assembly caucus of APGA as well as state chairmen of the party had endorsed him and the party’s national secretary, Alhaji Sani Shinkafi.

They described the audited account of APGA dated June 8, 2012, which was prepared on the instruction of Umeh, as “doctored and an after-thought.”

Massala said, “Let me make it clear to you that Chief Victor Umeh and Alhaji Sani Shinkafi were never endorsed by the APGA caucus of the National Assembly. APGA must be restructured and removed from the clutches of one man; Umeh should cease to be the accountant, contractor and exchequer of the party.

“For the avoidance of doubt, we were reliably informed that the lawmakers told Umeh of the urgent need to restructure the party to ensure that the current personalisation of the party stops.”

Massala described as laughable, the claim by Umeh that he had been endorsed by the state chairmen of the party.

APGA’s Director of Publicity, Mr. Iheanacho Ogujiofor, told our correspondent on the telephone that the Massala-led group had no base in the party.

He said, “They should come out of the hotel and stop deceiving the public because they have no base in APGA.

“They are lost sheep and have no base in our party. The 37 states chairmen, who unanimously passed a vote of confidence on Umeh’s leadership have spoken.

“The APGA members in the National Assembly were with us yesterday (Tuesday). Three people cannot sit in a hotel and make useless noise.”

Meanwhile, the Igbo Youth Movement has warned the leadership of APGA to stop the feud and put their house in order.

In a statement made available to our correspondent in Awka on Wednesday, the President of IYM, Mr. Elliot Uko, said APGA was a collective heritage of the Igbo race and the people would not sit by and watch a few people entrusted with the leadership of the party destroyed it.

Uko said, “We warn the leadership of APGA to put their house in order without delay, as their incessant bickering is not only shameful and annoying, but a huge embarrassment to Ndi-Igbo and other sympathisers of APGA.”
