Sporadic shooting in Damaturu

THERE was pandemonium in Damaturu, Yobe State, on Monday, as residents tried to flee the area as a result of sporadic gunshots.

The state Commissioner of Police, Patrick Egbuniwe, said suspected members of the Islamist sect, Boko Haram, on Monday, attacked three police targets in Damaturu.

He said police and army fought back, adding, however, that he was not aware of any casualties.

The Yobe state government had announced the relaxation of a dusk-to-dawn curfew just before the attacks began.
