An Upper Area Court in Gwagwalada yesterday ordered that a 40-year-old man, Augustine Emeh, be remanded in prison custody for allegedly inflicting injury on one Kenneth Ndubueze.

Emeh was accused of conspiring with one Stanley Eze, now at large, to inflict injury on Ndubueze with a broken bottle after an argument at Grand Spot Hotel, Gwagwalada.

The Police Prosecutor, Insp. Modupe Musa, told the court that the victim was dragged out of the hotel by the accused before inflicting the injury on his stomach that forced out his intestines.

Musa said the accused took N110,000 belonging to the victim and ran away after the incident.

He said the accused also destroyed the property of the hotel.

The prosecutor said the incident occurred on June 29, adding that the accused was arrested on the same date by a police patrol team from Gwagwalada Area Command.

Musa told the court that the victim was currently receiving treatment at the University of Abuja Teaching Hospital.

She said the accused was arraigned on a four-count charge of conspiracy, mischief, causing grievous hurt and extortion, which are contrary to Sections 97, 327, 243 and 292 of the Penal Code.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charges and made an oral application for his bail through his counsel, Mr Edo Okanya.

Judge Babangida Hassan ordered that the accused should be remanded in prison custody following an objection to the bail application by the prosecution.

He ordered that a motion on notice in respect of the bail be filed before the court and adjourned the case to August 15 for hearing. (NAN)
