Jonathan Awards N927Billion Worth of Contracts In 10 Months, N246bn Goes To Niger Delta

The period under review is between August 10, 2011 and June 13, 2012. And, the information is contained in a document entitled: Federal Executive Council Approved Contract.

A rough breakdown of the way the money has been spent shows that N10.76bn worth of contract was awarded in August 2011;
September had N72.89bn; October N94.97bn; and December N128.34bn.
Meanwhile, N470bn worth of contracts was awarded in November 2011, the highest in any given month.
In this year, N27.23bn worth of contract was awarded in January;
February N16.62bn,
April N74.47bn,
and May N30.40bn.
The Ministry of Niger Delta Affairs got the lion share of the amount spent with a contract of about N246bn allegedly awarded to one Setraco Nigeria Limited on August 10 2011;  for the construction of sections 1 and 2 of the East-West road spanning Warri, Rivers and Bayelsa – a total of three states. The contract is said to have 28 months completion period.
An interesting aspect of these contracts is the periods within which some of them were expected to be completed. And, the most suspicious of these is the Oju/Loko Bridge project in Nassarawa State, which cost N36bn, was awarded to Raynolds Construction, with a completion period of 48 months! By this time, Jonathan’s first term would be over.

Nigerians are hoping these won’t end up to be a waste of money as we had with a lot of abandoned projects initiated during the previous administrations.
In 2011, a presidential panel, headed by Alhaji Ibrahim Bunu had revealed that of the 11,886 projects across the country during Obasanjo’s tenure, most of them were eventually abandoned by Good luck Jonathan's administration.

Meanwhile, early in 2012, precisely in February, the Senate had questioned the legality of contracts awarded by the Federal Executive Council under Jonathan.

Naija which way forward?

gej is on the right track. afterall charity begins at home. as a niger deltan this remains the best moments to right the wrongs done to the oil producing areas. my prayer is that who ever is awarded any contract should finish it. i wont blame him for not finishing obasanjo's projects. he [obasajo] had 8 years to do that.

This is our turn in Niger Delta, let us make good use of it. Just count it - Air Force base for Bayelsa, Navy Central command for Bayelsa, Greenfield Refinery for Bayelsa, Ship Building Yard for Balyelsa, Federal University for Bayelsa, Air Port for Bayelsa, Massive road constructions in Bayelsa, just go on and count. Thank you GEJ for remembering us. But pls , also help our other brothers in the East as they have also suffered the neglect with us. Bravo GEJ.
