In June, the House had, through a resolution, invited Jonathan to appear before a closed session to brief federal lawmakers on the state of security in the country – a move that triggered varied reactions in support and dissent over the propriety of the invitation.
Jonathan’s resolution was reportedly a fallout of two private meetings with House Speaker Aminu Waziri Tambuwal after federal lawmakers threatened to begin impeachment processes on Jonathan if he fails to achieve 100 per cent implementation of the 2012 budget by September.
In addition to Nigeria’s security situation, Jonathan is expected to defend the budget implementation, a ranking officer, who preferred anonymity in view of the touchy nature of the invitation, disclosed to LEADERSHIP yesterday.
