An eyewitness told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the suspects numbering about 20 gained access into the secretariat through the rear gate while the police and other security personnel were at the front gate.
It was gathered that the suspects, who operated for about three hours, gained entrance into virtually all the offices of the secretariat.
They were said to have burgled accounting offices of many departments including those of the Nigerian Immigration Service and Nigerian Prison Service.
After the operation, the suspects reportedly attacked the security agents at the front gate and locked them in one of the offices.
The spokespersons of the Immigration service and that of Prison service, Alhaji Murtala Mohammed and Mohammed Jibia, respectively, confirmed the incident, saying their accounting offices were also burgled but nothing was stolen.
The Acting Police Public Relations officer in the state, ASP Lawal Ahmadu also confirmed the incident and said the police was focussing its investigation on the staff.
He added that no arrest had been made but that investigation was in progress. (NAN).
