A murder suspect, Taiwo Abisoye, has been remanded in prison
custody over the death of his friend, Gabriel Abutu, whom he
allegedly stabbed to death during an argument.
Abisoye, who was arraigned on a one count of murder before the
Ebute-Meta Magistrate’s Court was said to be a bricklayer, the
same occupation of the deceased.
The duo were said to have had a misunderstanding after few drinks.
The suspect allegedly stabbed the deceased with a broken bottle
which led to his death.
The police said Abisoye confessed to the crime and was arrested
with exhibits.
The charge sheet read in part, “That you, Taiwo Adesoye,m, on the
25th day of June, 2013 at Adamo bus stop via Ikorodu, Lagos in the
Lagos Magisterial District, did unlawfully kill one Gabriel Abutu,m,
aged 21 years by stabbing him on his neck with a broken bottle and
thereby committed an offence punishable under Section 221 of the
Criminal Laws of Lagos State, Nigeria, 2011.”
The defendant’s plea was not taken.
The prosecutor, Etim Nkankuk, applied that the defendant be
remanded in line with Section 264 of the Administration of Criminal
Justice of Lagos State.
The magistrate, Mrs. Aje Afunwa, ruled that Abisoye be remanded in
prison custody pending the advice from the office of the Director of
Public Prosecution.
The matter was adjourned till August 16
