A 48-year-old member of the Yaba College of Technology, Lagos, Gbenga Awoyode, has approached a Lagos Grade A Customary Court, Lagos State, sitting at Alagbado to seek the dissolution of his marriage to his wife, Raliat, whom he accused of cheating on him....

Awoyode alleged that whenever he was on night duty, his wife usually used the opportunity to engage in illicit sex with neighbours.
According to him, his 52-year-old wife was once caught having sex with a Celestial Church of Christ pastor in a hotel.
He said that after enduring his marriage for 15 years, he could no longer cope because of the pains, shame and insult he had suffered in the union. He added that his neighbour's wife had once warned his wife in the full glare of other neighbours to leave her husband alone.
Awoyode alleged further that Raliat had turned life into a nightmare for him and his two children from his first marriage, forcing the maltreated children to run away from home. He added that she had no regard for his family and beat other relatives who dared to challenge her actions.
According to Awoyode, Raliat confiscates important documents like identification card as well as driver's licence and destroys his belongings whenever they quarrel.
In her defence, Raliat, a pensioner, said her husband cooked up the allegations to give her a bad name in order to secure a divorce, adding that she was not a hostile person as claimed and that it was her husband's callous attitude that causes rift in their marriage.
She stated that her husband only gave her N200 as feeding allowance for nine people, and beat her up when she complained about the meagre sum of money.
Raliat further accused her husband of dating another woman and appealed to the court not to dissolve the marriage, as she still loved her husband.
After listening to both parties, the court president, Mr P. A. Williams, adjourned the case till Monday, September 9, 2013 for further hearing.
