The Minister of Education, Nyesom Wike, has said the  200 billion Naira promised Nigerian Universities in the new Memorandum of Understanding belongs to the Universities which are expected to implement the content of the agreement reached between the Academic Staff Union of Universities and the Federal Government rather than the Union as supposed.
The Minister who was reacting to the Statement credited to the Treasurer of the Academic Staff Union of Universities and Chairman, ASUU UI, Dr. Ademola Aremu that the Federal Government had failed in its pledge to remit the N55bn for the first quarter as contained in the agreement, denied reneging on the Memorandum of Understanding reached with the Union.
“It is not true. Federal government is following the implementation of the agreement and ASUU is part of the implementation monitoring committee.
“Funds are with the universities; it is not ASUU that is implementing it. The monies are paid to the respective universities which are implementing the agreement.
“The universities are doing their procurement now for funds that have been released. When they conclude their procurement, the next tranche will be released.”
