An Abuja Federal High Court has restrained the National Assembly from summoning or directing the appearance of the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Diezani Alison-Madueke and the NNPC before any committee, particularly the public accounts committee.

The interim injunction granted by Justice A.R Mohammed also restrained the House of Representatives from requesting the production by the minister and the NNPC of any papers, notes or other documents before any such committee or the giving of any evidence by the relevant public officers.

In the expert motion filed by the counsel to the minister and NNPC, Etigwe Uwa, the court restrained the House of Representatives from issuing a warrant to compel the attendance of the minister before the public accounts committee.

Also, Justice Mohammed ordered an interim stoppage on the investigative public hearing on the lease of aircrafts by the NNPC pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

In the alternative, the judge further ordered a status quo order, directing parties to maintain the current position as at the date of filing of the action with regard to the proposed public hearing in respect of the NNPC’s leased aircrafts pending the hearing and determination of the motion on notice.

Meanwhile, the House of Representatives, on Monday, disclosed that the Minister of Petroleum Resources, Mrs Alison-Maduekwe, has dragged it before a Federal High Court, Abuja, to prevent its committee on public account from probing ₦10 billion chartered jet allegation.

The House, therefore, said it was not under any pressure to jettison the probe.

To this end, the House vowed that it would seek legal opinion from experts and consequently vacate the court injunction against the proposed probe.

It will be recalled that the House had last month, mandated its committee on public accounts to conduct a public hearing on the allegation and report back to it within three weeks.
