There are reports that the ongoing protest by striking lecturers of Nigeria’s polytechnics and colleges of education at the Federal Secretariat, Abuja, has been disrupted by the police.
 
The peaceful protest, which was organized to show displeasure at the Federal Government’s handling of the strike which is about 11 months old now was disrupted on Tuesday morning when police officers fired tear-gas at the protesters, made up of lecturers and students.

I pity those students. Meanwhile, most people still believe we have the best president ever in Nigeria now, the truth is, we don't have a President/government at all. Education is not run like this even in poorer African countries like Niger, Benin and Cameroon..Our leaders will continue to treat the masses as if they are nothing not until when you all can stop all tribal sentiments and say the truth whenever something is wrong and not continuing to say things that are not real.. No Nigerian Politician cares about you. You can give them all your support today and they will finish your future tomorrow when they assume that public office...

Abuja policemen reportedly released tear gas on polytechnic lecturers and students who were engaging in peaceful protests today at the National Assembly complex.

The protesters staged the event in order to urge the Nigerian government to have a dialogue about reopening Nigerian polytechnics. The lecturers have  been on a 1o-month-strike due to unmet demands.

Armed policemen allegedly fired tear gas canisters at the  protesters and used hot water hoses to disperse the crowd,

i remember when we were in Auchi poly,police tried this kind nonsense then,na beating they get na,naija police dont deserved respects,why must them sprayed tear gas,when they know many cannot bear the pain,naija police are behaving like animals,although their police college even worst that animals farm that is were they emulate those characters,they dont even care about the citizens causing more pains to their pains.

Its about time we fought back. We need 2 rise 2geda,4get tribal sentiment & religion cos those politicians are feedin off it,using it 2 divide us the more. Its obvious that they dnt want 2 hear d truth & hve no plan 4 the masses. We need revolutn,we need 2tal wipe out of those politicians 4rm d top 2 d bottom.

Police yesterday in Abuja tear gassed lecturers of public polytechnics and their counterparts in the colleges of education who stormed the city to protest lingering closure of the institutions.

The teachers, acting under the auspices of Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics, ASUP, and the Colleges of Education Academic Staff Union, COEASU, converged on the parking lot of the Federal Secretariat, where the protest took off, at about 7am.
