A day-old baby boy was recently exhumed after he was hurriedly buried alive by his mother, (names withheld) in a desperate bid to avoid his madam from knowing that she was delivered of the baby boy.
The incident, which occurred at Zone 7, Wuse Area of Abuja, attracted sympatisers who rained curses on the girl for committing such a dastardly act.
According to an eyewitness, "the girl who buried the baby was pregnant without her madam knowing it. She is a house help who sells snacks and does other house chores for her madam.
"One day, the madam called the attention of the house help and asked her if she was pregnant but the girl told her madam that she had a big stomach, and that was why it looked as if she was pregnant."
LEADERSHIP reliably gathered that the madam of the house traveled to Kano and stayed for two weeks, but on her return, she noticed that her house help's blouse could no longer be buttoned properly so she asked her again if she was pregnant.
On September 2 at 4:30am, a reliable source said: "The madam, while asleep, was awoken by the voice of a crying baby, so she came out of her house and went to the backyard to find out whose baby was crying because she knew none of her neighbours had a little baby. On getting there, she could not find anything, so, she decided to go outside her gate and she still found nothing.
"Still hearing the voice of the crying baby loudly, this time she was restless and decided to trace the voice to her backyard where it was coming from. She was astonished and surprised to find a heap of sand, but remembering that there was nothing of that kind at her backyard the previous night, she quickly went inside her house and picked up her phone and called the lady that brought her the house help. At the arrival of the lady, the madam then called the police station at Wuse zone 3," the reliable source further said.
LEADERSHIP gathered that at the arrival of the police at about 10:00am, they dug out the baby, and he was immediately taken to an orphanage home. However, the house help still denied knowing something about the child when she was confronted.
"But on a closer examination, there were blood stains all over her body and on the floor of her room," said our source. The house help could not alter a statement so the police was asked to take her to the police station while further investigation would be carried out. Meanwhile attempts by LEADERSHIP to speak with the police PRO were not successful.
