A chieftain of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta State, Pastor Power Aginighan, has condemned the manner the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, forcefully re-arrested the immediate past Director General, Nigerian Maritime Administration and Safety Agency, NIMASA, Dr Ziakede Akpobolokemi, at the premises of the Federal High Court in Lagos.

Former DG of NIMASA, Patrick Ziadeke Akpobolokemi (centre) being led out of court after his arraignment by EFCC in Lagos.
Aginighan, in a statement, yesterday, in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, said that the action of the EFCC was embarrassing since Akpobolokemi had never refused an invitation from the security agency.
Aginighan who is a former acting Managing Director, Niger Delta Development Commission, NDDC, enjoined President Muhamadu Buhari to order the release of the detainee, adding that he should direct the EFCC to act within the confines of the law.
“I watched with shock, the horrific manner, Akpobolokemi, immediate past Director-General of NIMASA, was bundled into a bus by operatives of EFCC right within the premises of the Federal High Court, Lagos, shortly after the adjournment of a case against him.
“To treat Akpobolokemi who has never refused to honour an invitation by the EFCC as an unrepentant criminal raises serious concerns about the threat posed to our democracy by over-zealous law enforcement agents.”
“In the light of the above, I urge Mr President to distance himself from this debasement of our humanity before the watching world by calling the EFCC to order and order the immediate release of Akpobolokemi.”
