i will disagree with you totally . that hajj is not and never cab be a journey under taking by rich peoples , hajj is never like going to jerusalem , is not like going to the amusements park , and is not like a jambores ,its ordaine by ALLAH himself , commanding the faithful to embark on the journey of faith , GOD said in the holy book al-quraan chapter 22 verse 27 which happen to the chapter of hajj itself ----- and proclaim to mankind the hajj ( pilgrimage) they will come to you on foot and on every lean camel, they will come from every deep and distance (wide) mountain highway to perform hajj , that they may witnessthings that are of benefit to them ,i e reward of hajj in the hereafter , and also some worldly gain from trade , and mention the name of ALLAH on the apointed days i,e 10,11,12,and 13 days of duhl-hijjah
its a welcome  ideal if the fed govt stop the sponsoring , i for one did not see any thing bad in that and its a welcome idea and hajj had been a continues yearly events ever before nigeria came to be as a country , much more older than the age of our country as a nation to talk less of any govt in power , and no one i repeat no any govt be what so ever it may can stop its continuety

If the moslems want all moslems to do the hajj, then they should look for alternative funding methods, but definitely not states funds.  We need to learn to separate religion from the government because there too many ethnic groups in Nigeria and too many religions.  You cannot fund one group and not fund the other so the decision not to fund any is a better way to go.

EXACTLY !  YOU ARE VERY RIGHT .  NIGERIA BEING A SECULAR STATE .  THERE IS NO JUSTIFICATION FAVOURING ONE RELIGION OVER ANOTHER -  YOU HAVE SAID IT ALL - AND THANK YOU MUCH FOR THIS .

WHEN U LOOK FURTHER YOU WILL FIND THAT ALL THOSE SPONSORSHIP IS WHERE VOTE RIGGING  BEGINS  IN "IF U  SCRATCH MY BACK I WILL SCRATCH YOURS IN RETURN "   ITS THE REASON WHY INEPT GOVTS CONTINUE ON AND ON BECAUSE THEY ARE RIGGING THEIR WAY INTO THE PEOPLES HEARTS .  - THEY CAPITALIZE ON THE IGNORANCE AND GULLIBILITY OF THE AVERAGE VOTER. . THEY EXPLOIT THEIR STATE OF POVERTY TO BLINDFOLD THEM AND EXPLOIT THEM EVEN MORE

I do agree with your assessment on this topic.  Thank you very much because honestly both agree.

and do not forget that 65- 70 percent of nigeria populations were muslim , and muslims controls two-third or even more of nigerian states and every state has got every right on how best to utlise own share or allocations of the national budget with out any one poke nosing into the affairs, and tell me now spending the money in the way of GOD , or stacking it in ones personal domain as if the private residence or even the govt house is an annex of central bank of nigeria ,as the case of james ibori and so many southern governors , which one is more prefarable ?some of the goverbors are still having their cases pending in uk , its right time we stop chassing the shadows rather than an object
Two can play this game.  We can either have a civilized conversation without the blame game or we can continue mudslinging.

Your claim that 65 to 70 percent of the Nigerian populations are muslims, I state that the Fulanis have obviously committed genocide in Nigeria when they have eliminated so many christians because in the past census, the population of christians compared to muslims were 50/50 in Nigeria.

The country cannot operate under religious sects but must operate as a secular society in order for things to work peacefully.  There are too many other religions in Nigeria that are not being treated the same way.  The Fulanis conquering the Hausas and keeping them into servitude for generations without giving them leadership authority or education needs to be looked at as well.  The legitimacy of Fulanis in Nigeria needs to be addressed as well.

The moslems cannot use the national budget as if it is their own central bank of Nigeria  for them to use in the worship of their god.  Your god should be able to supply all your needs and should not depend on that national cake.  Allocating these funds to people that do not need it except for them to travel on religious pilgrimage while the rest of the nations are living in poverty needs complete over haul on how budget is allocated in the future.

Thank you  . that was well analyzed and well reasoned out .
IF FULANIS ARE  NORMADIC MICRANTS WHY NOT GO BACK HOME TO THE DESERT  IF CITY LIFE IS TOO HARD FOR THEM ??
Amen.  The Fulanis believe that they are the only people that should rule Nigeria and it is time that we say no.

SO WHAT!!! Govt no govt, the Hajj will be attended as usual if not evn on a bigger scale. It is a calling from ALLAH (SWT) so muslims will sacrifice a great deal for such an important cause. I dont undrstnd why Xtians look for the slightest possible oppurtunity to throw cheap shots @ Islam. Its the fastest growing religion for a reason so say whateva but deal with it u must.
You will agree that this pilgrimage should not be sponsored by the national cake.  It should be a community thing where the rich people in the community should donate a substantial sum of money for those less able to make the pilgrimage to be able to do so at least once in their life time.

It used to be a journey made by the rich not sure why the government would get involved to sponsor others and yet, the poor without connection, has not been able to make that pilgrimage to date so it is well that this funding be abolished because those meant to benefit never did benefit, but the rich got richer and the poor got poorer and the funds were mismanaged.

The government has made the right decision this time and we should commend them.  God bless Nigeria.

Oh i agree with you totally on this one.... Nigeria is a diverse country with many ethnic groups & religions so Federal govt. should stay out of issues of this sort. However.... state govts on the other hand hav the right to divert their funds according to the will of the people and the laws governing the country, so what happens in the muslim northern states is no-one elses business. Subsidy will come from the state & local govts. tht is without a doubt.

The state funds also came from the Federal government.  Funds received from the federal government should not be allocated from religious pilgrimages for any religion.

This type of funding should only be covered via the religious organizations and not the funds coming from the federal government to the states.  All government should actually keep out of funding religious pilgrimages.
Sorry Kenyawest but u hv no stake or say in how states should divert their funds so well definitely do as we please with our money Grin Grin Grin (or sorry south south oil money given to us for the sake of federalism).

Bonz, since when did you decide when I have a stake or not?

Com on Kenyawest your stake is in 9ja & the state u hail from..... as far as kano & co are concerned OF COURSE U DONT!!!!

This is one Nigeria.  All Nigerians hail from Nigeria.  All Nigerians can move to any state that they wish to reside in.  All Nigerians hold a stake on each state existing in Nigeria.  Kano and co are my concerns as well.  Nigeria is Nigeria.

Get it?

You see I still maintain,if Nigeria claim to be one why can't an Easterner be free in the North or vice versa. The issue is that all these people are forced to be one due to one selfish interests and reasons so far. When you take your time to read from every body's view be it Christians or Muslims,Hausas ,Igbos,Yerubas and so on what you see in most cases are pure hatred on each other. When shall we learn to put our differences aside and learn to at least tolerate one another. That will do us a lot good if we claim to be one Nigeria.

Let me tell you a story. One day I was in Aba in Abia State. While I was at the Cemetery mkt I saw some Hausa business men lamenting who brought some water melon and some other Agricultural food sturfs from the North.I could see in those Hausa men been really treated bad I was moved to ask what was going on and after the explanations I came to realize that some group of guys from Aba were trying to collect an illegal revenue from this business guys from the North unlawfully after they have paid the actual duties.I went to the group in question and pleaded on behalf of those Northerners but unfortunately those guys turned against me and even wanted to fight me if not I was gentle,I imagined me with Agboro (Tauts) fighting I have never fought or been beating up for over 18 years I traveled out of Nigeria, the whole thing was strange to my understanding.I was shocked the way those guys refused to understand.I then asked them if the same should happen to them while in the North you guys will complain why not show an example being peaceful and show hospitality to these traders from the North.Just to cut my story short,Let every Nigerian try to tolerate (if not love) each other no matter our differences in tribe, religion and so on! That is the only way forward if we insist in building a strong nation.

I have not see any prayers they are going for like the muslim they will go Hijj to sponsor Terrorist in the country, so pilgrimages to Saudi Arabia and Jerusalem are not the solutions to solve poorvaties and crises in Nigerian now. If ur heart is good we don't to go someone country and for prayers hence it means the God you are servicing is not every where. For a reasonable government to withdraw from sponsoring the pilgrimage is entirely politically driven. I want to bet you for the next ten or twenty years to come, if there'll be any change in the said Adamawa State to justify the current development. As for the pilgrims, they should not rely on the government to really please God, lest somebody, even like the government now, rise and  boast of sponsoring religious movements of the sort...
