Super Eagles and Wolverhampton Wanderers goalkeeper Carl Ikeme has begun treatment for acute leukaemia.
The 31-year-old shared on Instagram, a photo of him on a hospital bed, thanking everyone for the support he’s gotten since news came out of his diagnosis.
He wrote:
Just wanted to say thanks for all the messages that I have received since being diagnosed with Leukaemia this week .
The support that has been shown by everyone has taken me back and been hard to look at without shedding a tear I know this is going to be a tough time now but I’m going to give it 100% as I always do !

Oh Our Nigeria's Best Goal Keeper At The Moment.A Handsome Igbo Boy.Get Well Soon And Take Charge Of The Super Eagle's Goal Post Before They Let In That Basket That Stood Sentinel In The Post Again South Africa.Was That Keeper A Yoruba?I Had This Feeling He Was.Quite Hopeless.Athletically Hopeless.
