Ahead of the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia, Super Eagles star, Alex Iwobi has said he will function better for the team if he is deployed in the number 10 position.
While speaking in an exclusive interview with ACL Sports, Super Eagles forward, Alex Iwobi disclosed that he will function better for the team if he is deployed in the number 10 position where the current captain of the side, Mikel Obi currently plays.

The Arsenal forward who largely plays on the wing for the Eagles, has played in a variety of roles for club and country, including left winger, right winger, left midfield, attacking midfield and center forward, but he prefers playing in the number ten role.

”For me, I have always grown up playing in number 10, not striker but close to the striker. That has always been my position growing up,” Iwobi said.

”I have learnt to adapt to a different position, I have played left midfield, I have played central midfield, I have played right midfield. I have played in a number of positions but my favourite role will probably be number 10.”

Leading up to the World Cup, Iwobi is one of Nigeria’s most in-form offensive players, with four goals in his last seven matches for the Super Eagles.

Meanwhile, Iwobi is eager to link up with the new Arsenal Manager Unai Emery after the man who gave him the breakthrough at the club Arsene Wenger called time on his illustrious stay at the Emirates.

Iwobi said: “I was surprised by his [Wenger’s] decision. Wenger has been there for me since I joined the club and has been very inspirational and influential on my career, but I am excited having our new manager next season.

“It has always been my childhood dream [to play for Arsenal]. I have been playing for Arsenal since I was six.

“The fact I am representing them now is like a dream come true. I am always proud to wear the Arsenal colours, and long may it continue.”

Iwobi made a career-high 39 appearances for Arsenal across all competitions in 2017-18, and recorded three goals during those outings, with there a feeling that the 22-year-old is capable of offering more to the collective cause.
