The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has presented the Certificate of Return to President Muhammadu Buhari following his re-election. He was declared the winner of the presidential election in the early hours of Wednesday after he polled a total of 15,191,847 votes to defeat his closest rival and candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Atiku Abubakar, who scored 11,262,978 votes.

Vice President Yemi Osinbajo was also given his Certificate of Return as Vice-President-elect.

Mr Yakubu gave Messrs Buhari and Osinbajo their certificates of return at about 2:20 p.m. on Wednesday at the ICC Abuja.

The president and his vice arrived at the ICC in the company of their spouses at about 2:10 p.m.

The INEC chairman, Mr Yakubu, who spoke briefly before handing over the certificates of return to the president and vice president-elect, said the occasion is a statutory requirement based on the Electoral Act which requires winners of elections to be given their certificate of return within seven days.

Mr Osinbajo was the first to receive his certificate from Mr Yakubu followed by Mr Buhari.

The main opposition party, PDP, has rejected the result of the election

At this point in time I regret being a Nigerian. Military officials are among those rigging, shooting at civilians who are against rigging. This is actually the time all Igbo's should join and support IPOB. Biafra is the option. No more, no less. As long as we are in this contraption called Nigeria, nothing meaningful will work. I URGE ALL SOUTHERNERS ESPECIALLY SOUTH EAST + SOUTH SOUTH to join forces against those trying to intimidate us. ENOUGH IS ENOUGH !

But according to the result they posted here (PDP) candidate Atiku Abubakar won the vote with 14, 442,550.  While (APC) Muhammadu Buhari lost the vote with only 12, 275,296.   So Atiku Abubakar won the election from the post am seeing here.
