Two men suspected to be fake soldiers have been arrested by the men of the Anti-Robbery Squad of the Ondo State Police Command for allegedly snatching a car at gun-point along Akure-Ilesa road. The suspects identified as Opeyemi Adebayo and Abubakar Sanni were said to be using fictitious names for their activities. The Police said they acted on the complaint of the owner of the unregistered black Honda Accord, belonging to Takeeb Obalokun, which was reported by him on July 10.

Parading the suspects, the Police Command’s spokesperson, Aremu Adeniran said the suspects, who were dressed in Nigerian Army uniform, and snatched a Honda Accord Saloon car at gun point.

“Takeeb Obalokun came to the State SARS and reported that on his way to Akure from Lagos, he gave two men who dressed in army uniform a ride, but when the got Ilara-Mokin junction, one of the suspected fake soldiers brought toy gun and snatched his unregistered Honda Accord car from him,” he said.

They were trailed by police detectives to Delta State, where they were arrested. Some of the items recovered from them, apart from the car were a toy gun, Army camouflage uniform and a dagger.

The suspects, who confirmed that they actually committed the crime, said they were once army officers, who had been dismissed from service and were looking for what to live on.

Hijacked truck

Also, the command also paraded three suspected armed robbers who hijacked a 911 lorry loaded with building materials valued at N1.5m at gun point in Enugu State. The suspects are Obina Nneke, Tajudeen Ajayi and Chukwudi Goddey.

The lorry was reportedly diverted to Owo in Ondo state which prompted the police in the area to swing into action and arrested the culprits. The lorry and the load was finally recovered at Ago-Alao, near Ipele-Owo where it was abandoned.
