Mixed Reactions Online After A Nigerian Lady Shares Photos Of Biafra Currencies She Found

A Nigerian lady identified simply as Chioma, took to social networking platform, Twitter to shared photos of Biafra currencies she found in her father’s room.

Chioma shared photos of clean notes and coins used during the nation’s civil war that lasted from 6 July 1967 to 15 January 1970.

Posting the photos online, she wrote,

“Found ancient Biafran currencies in my fathers house ! These notes are over 60 years old and quite beautiful to say the least

Biafran pounds and shillings

50kobo and one Naira notes. Throwback to when these notes had value”

Quite a number of Nigerians were surprised over how clean the notes were and how they were kept all throughout the years… some who could relate to Chioma’s discovery, shared their own experience of how they found the Biafran currencies, IDs and all in their old folks’ home.

These items are artifacts that should be kept in a museum as part of our heritage but as usual we will not do that and history will be lost.
