A group of Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) infected persons  have sued the Federal Government demanding general damages of $50billion and an order restraining the government from further use of condoms.

The plaintiffs are Mr. Sunday Emmanuel, Mr. Dozie Iwuji, Miss Emmanuel Ugwueze, Miss Nkem Obi, Mr. Ikechukwu Ukwu and Rosemary Ndifon. Others are Dr. Lawson Alozie Akpulonu, Mr. M.G.Bendi and HIV/AIDS Research, information and Treatment Foundation, Miss Ekaette Sunday, Miss Chinwe Uchendu, Miss Chidinma Kingsley, Mr. Iheanyichi Anosike.

The infected persons who filed a suit at the Federal High Court in Port Harcourt claimed that they were infected with the dreaded virus despite the use of  of condoms which were  being promoted by the government.

They, therefore, wanted the court to declare that the only methods of preventing HIV transmission through sex, are segxwal abstinence or faithfulness to ones partner after both partners are confirmed HIV negative by test.

The HIV patients also wanted a stop to the further use of the current national policy on HIV/AIDS.

They demand the court to stop the government and its agents from further importation, distribution, sales of condoms for use for the purported prevention of HIV/AIDS in Nigeria.

The plaintiffs also want the court to slam a perpetual injunction on the defendants or their agents from further conducting any clinical trials in Nigeria involving con-doms, cellulose sulfate gel and other chemical substances in which Nigerian citizens were used as human guinea pigs and or participants whether they had consented or not to such clinical trials.
