Abubakar Malami, the Minister of Justice and Attorney-General of the Federation (AGF) has stated that the issue of pardoning Nnamdi Kanu, the embattled leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, is premature.

The AGF said this while appearing as a guest on Channels Television’s Politics Today on Wednesday December 1.

According to him, the trials associated with Kanu have not been concluded and as such the pardon option cannot get on the table just yet. Malami added that the option has not been ruled out.

He said;

“Pardon is a function of conviction in the Nigerian context and as far as I know, Nnamdi Kanu has not been convicted yet so the idea of pardoning him is premature."

When asked if granting the IPOB leader pardon is an option for peace in the South East, Malami said he is yet to assess the security implications of such a decision.

You only pardons who commits crime. In this case if anybody needs pardon, it's the terrorist government that illegally abducted from Kenya and keeps torturing him in DSS custody without trial up till date, because they have no serious allegation against him.

It certainly is. Those pleading for his pardon are merely encouraging perversion of justice. What they ought to be pleading for is for a fair trial. Let him have a fair trial and live with the outcome. Every action has a consequence.

Pardon or no pardon, nnamdi kanu will still remain the loud mouth that he is. Even when he had not been arrested ipob activities were that of domestic terrorists brandishing guns and soliciting for weapons of mass destruction to fight federal government in order to create state of Biafra. Unfortunately, he doesn't know how to fight for freedom. His arrogance and use of foul language have led many youths to their early graves. Now, he wants freedom desperately. From who, BUHARI or JUBRIL from Sudan. He is too stubborn and he may not take advice from any of the Igbo elders once he free. However, he deserves freedom like any other Nigerians.

Kanu have said severally Nigeria is a kangaroo state and it would be very important if Nigeria would let him renounce  his statement and say to the judge Nigeria is a zoo .I would have loved the prosecution team to put before illiterate Kanu a definition of a zoo right before the judge and his defense team should be technically ready to put before  prosecution judge if he’s now being tried by animals from the zoo . Talking about pardon would amount to an outright misconduct of the constitution. Let’s not be sensitive in a case that carries such a weighty felony against Nigeria. He’s in the court facing his trial ,any intervention to subvert justice or to make a preemptive decision will encourage any other offenders.Therefore,it’s too early to bring forward pardon .Such action is why Kanu could call Nigeria a zoo because only in a zoo will a president unilaterally or exercise an executive power to disrupt a legal process. Kanu should be allowed to see his case to the end and face whatever consequences comes with it .He is a criminal
