Chelsea France midfielder N’Golo Kante is reportedly on the verge of agreeing a pre-contract agreement with Barcelona, talkSPORT understands.

According to Sport, Kante is closing in on an agreement with Barcelona with his current deal due to expire next summer.

The midfielder has been hampered by a host of injuries this year which kept him out of the World Cup but that has not fazed Barcelona as Xavi continues to reshape his squad.

An agreement could even be in place as early as January with Kante keen to resolve his future as soon as possible.

The LaLiga giants are believed to want a ready-made replacement for club legend Sergio Busquets who is set to depart next summer.

A free transfer would also make sense for the cash-strapped club whose premature Champions League exit did their cause no favours.

Kante could line up alongside starlets Pedri and Gavi who are viewed as the future of the club’s midfield.

Meanwhile, Frenkie de Jong’s future is still unclear and Franck Kessie looks set to move on next summer after just one season at the Nou Camp.

Nobdoy wants Kante to leave at all, but you never really know what's happening inside... Reports are he wants 3years, Chelsea offering two...but trust me nobody knows the reality of things...my advice is Chelsea should try and negotiate for De Jong because he seems frustrated in Barca.

I feel sad for Kessie in all of this, he was the star man in Milan midfield only to leave and sit on the bench in Barca, playing second fiddle to kids he's better than. Now if those kids play ahead of you, is it a fit Kante you'll bench??

2 is not that bad, afterall, he knows that it has been a long standing culture at Chelsea for players above 30. And knows that at the end of the 2 years,if he is still performing at a good level, he will be offered an extension. He should look at Thiago Silva. As for Kessie, he had no reason to leave Milan the time and the way he did. He should have played this years Champions league with them by extending his stay over there, and have him sold to get in something for Milan. Clubs are pressurized to use players they pay huge amounts for, and you know Kessie wouldn't have come cheap. You saw how much we used  Torres even as he was flopping just because of $50M.

I don't mind having Kante in my team even if he's only going to play half the matches of the season, I know that sounds selfish, but we all know what he's going to offer the team for those matches he played will be priceless.
