One Person Dead, Several Imjured, 4 Arrested, As Traders, Amotekun Clash In Ekiti

Two persons have allegedly been shot by an officer of the Amotekun corps in Ekiti State. One of the victims was said to have died immediately while the other is battling for his life in an undisclosed hospital. It was also learnt that two officers of the Amotekun corps were seriously attacked in retaliation by traders.

This is just as the state police command said it has commenced discreet investigation into the incident It was said that trouble ensued when the Amotekun officers trying to relocate traders from Atikankan area of Ado Ekiti to a new

location provided by government at Agric Olope, but some of the traders who were not ready to obey the new policy reportedly  attacked the Amotekun officers and in the process it was alleged that one of the officers opened fire at them.

At the moment, the area has been taken over by armed policemen to avert further crisis. The police said that, “four suspects have been arrested so far in connection with the incident. Meanwhile, normalcy has been restored to the area.” The Commissioner Of Police in the state, CP Ogundare Dare in a press release by the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), DSP Abutu Sunday said that the “command received a distress call that there was a clash between operatives of the Ekiti State Security Network Agency (Amotekun) and a group of irate youths in Atikankan area of Ado Ekiti.

“The Command immediately deployed operatives to the scene to maintain peace and forestall further damage. “Upon reaching the scene, it was discovered that two persons were seriously injured and rushed to the hospital. “The Ekiti State Commissioner of Police, CP Ogundare Dare, has ordered a discreet investigation into the incident to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to book”.
