
The police at the bar beach division of the Lagos State Police Command, Victoria Island, Lagos have arrested a businessman, Kelvin Amaechi 27, and charged him before a Lagos Magistrates’ Court for allegedly using a machete to inflict cuts on a property agent, Oluwafemi Ogunleye, with blood gushing out and escaped.
Police alleged that following the incident, the Complainant reported the matter to the Divisional Police Officer, DPO in charge of Barbeach division who swiftly directed her crack team led by Inspector Eucharia Ojocha to fish out the suspect anywhere he might be hiding.
The police team tracked the defendant to a hideout in Lagos and arrested him.
Amaechi, a resident of Oluwa Street, Tolu, Ajegunle, Apapa, Lagos was charged before the Tinubu Magistrate’s Court on a three-count charge bordering on assault occasioning bodily harm.
Police prosecuting counsel, Ishola Samuel told the court in the charge marked TA/43/2023 that the defendant committed the offence on 3 June 2023 at 0-2 apartment located at 36 Baralabe Musa Crescent, Victoria Island, Lagos.
Samuel informed the court that the defendant picked up a cutlass and used it to cut the complainant all over his body for unjustifiable reasons and escaped before he was arrested through tracking.
He said the offences, the defendant committed were punishable under Sections 173, 245 and 246 of the Criminal Laws of Lagos State, 2015.
The defendant, however, pleaded not guilty to the offence, but Magistrate Mr A. A. Paul reserved his bail till 18 September 2023 and ordered him to be detained at the Ikoyi Correctional Facility till the adjourned date.
