A marital discord unfolded before the Customary Court in Jikwoyi, near Abuja, as Mrs. Jane Ebi, a businesswoman, brought allegations against her husband, Monday, on Friday.
Mrs. Ebi, seeking a divorce, accused her husband of engaging in extramarital affairs, describing him as hot-tempered, wicked, and prone to drunkenness, with a penchant for pursuing other women.
The petitioner lamented her husband's alleged reckless behavior, claiming that he endangered her life by attempting to kill her and frequently spending nights away from their matrimonial home with young women.
"I have made numerous efforts to reform the respondent, but he has persistently refused to change his ways. He often leaves me and our children vulnerable by sleeping outside with young girls," Mrs. Ebi asserted before the court.
In response, the respondent, Monday, who works as a driver, refuted all allegations leveled against him.
Presiding over the case, Judge Doocivir Yawe urged the couple to consider reconciliation and adjourned proceedings until March 7, awaiting either a settlement report or further hearing.
The courtroom drama underscores the complexities of marital disputes and the challenges faced by couples in resolving conflicts, highlighting the importance of mediation and reconciliation efforts in such circumstances.
