
The Nigerian Meteorological Agency (NiMet) has issued a weather forecast predicting a blend of sunshine and thunderstorms across the country from Saturday to Monday.
In its weather outlook released from Abuja on Friday, NiMet projects sunny conditions prevailing over the northern region on Saturday. However, there are chances of morning thunderstorms in parts of Kebbi and Sokoto states, with thunderstorms expected later in the day over Kaduna, Kebbi, and Zamfara states.
"For the North central cities, a sunny atmosphere with patches of clouds is anticipated, with morning thunderstorms expected in parts of Niger. During the afternoon and evening hours, thunderstorms are anticipated over parts of Niger, the Federal Capital Territory, and Plateau states," the forecast outlines.
Moving to the southern regions, a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine is expected inland. Morning thunderstorms are forecasted over parts of Cross River and Akwa Ibom states, with thunderstorms later in the day over Ondo, Ekiti, Ogun, Osun, Edo, Delta, Bayelsa, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Rivers states.
On Sunday, NiMet predicts sunny skies over the northern region, with afternoon and evening thunderstorms expected in parts of Kaduna, Adamawa, Taraba, Borno, and Bauchi states. The North Central is expected to experience a similar weather pattern, with the possibility of thunderstorms over parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Kwara, Benue, and Plateau states during the afternoon and evening hours.
Coastal cities in the South are forecasted to experience a cloudy atmosphere with intervals of sunshine, with afternoon and evening thunderstorms expected over parts of Oyo, Osun, Edo, Ogun, Ekiti, Delta, Bayelsa, Rivers, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, and Lagos states.
Looking ahead to Monday, NiMet anticipates sunny skies over the northern region, with thunderstorms likely in parts of Zamfara, Sokoto, Kaduna, and Kebbi states during the afternoon and evening. The North Central can expect a mix of sun and clouds, with thunderstorms possible in parts of the Federal Capital Territory, Niger, Kwara, Nasarawa, Benue, and Kogi states.
In the southern regions, cloudy skies with intervals of sunshine are expected inland, while morning thunderstorms are predicted over parts of Cross River, Rivers, Bayelsa, and Akwa Ibom states. Thunderstorms are forecasted later in the day over parts of Imo, Abia, Enugu, Edo, Oyo, Ondo, Ebonyi, Delta, Lagos, Cross River, Akwa Ibom, Bayelsa, and Rivers states.
NiMet advises the public to stay hydrated and take adequate precautions due to high temperatures, especially in the North and North Central regions. Airline operators are urged to obtain updated weather reports and forecasts from NiMet for effective planning.
