Tragedy struck on Saturday night as bandits launched a deadly assault on worshippers observing Ramadan prayers in Mairuwa village, located in the Faskari local government area of Katsina State.
According to reports, several worshippers fell victim to the attack, with at least two individuals losing their lives while another sustained critical injuries.
Among the deceased was a well-known figure in the community, identified only as Alhaji Lado, who was suspected to be the primary target of the assailants. Described as a prominent businessman, politician, and large-scale farmer, Alhaji Lado reportedly refused to comply with the bandits' demands, leading to his fatal shooting.
Eyewitnesses recounted the harrowing ordeal, detailing how the attackers kidnapped Alhaji Lado's wife and two daughters during the assault.
Another victim of the attack was identified as Sani, a health worker at the Mairuwa Health Facility, whose life was tragically cut short by the violence.
The incident underscores the ongoing security challenges faced by residents of Katsina State, which has been heavily impacted by banditry in recent years. Despite efforts to curb criminal activities, the region continues to grapple with persistent violence and insecurity.
