ABUJA – Justice Emeka Nwite of the Federal High Court in Abuja has mandated that charges pertaining to an alleged N80 billion fraud case against former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Adoza Bello, be served via his legal representative, Abdulwahab Mohammed. This decision came during a ruling on Tuesday, following an application by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) for substituted service.

The application was vigorously argued by EFCC's lead counsel, Kemi Pinheiro, SAN. Despite initial resistance from Bello’s lawyer, Mohammed, who refused to accept the charges and proof of evidence, he was eventually compelled by Justice Nwite to do so. The judge also dismissed a request to have the charges accepted by a junior lawyer in Mohammed’s team, AI Musa, insisting that the senior lawyer handle the matter directly.

This legal maneuvering follows last week’s issuance of a bench warrant against Bello by Justice Nwite, in response to another application by the EFCC. The former governor has been repeatedly absent from court proceedings, prompting the EFCC to declare him wanted for evading the serious allegations against him.
