Doyin Okupe, a former presidential spokesperson for Nigeria's Labour Party, recently identified himself as an evangelist of Jesus Christ while recounting his personal battles with cancer and his weight loss journey. In an appearance on Channels Television's programme, Political Paradigm, Okupe shared how his faith and medical treatment have intersected in his life.

Okupe disclosed that he has been diagnosed with cancer twice, and the rigorous chemotherapy treatment significantly affected his appetite, leading to substantial weight loss. When asked if his weight loss was a result of surgical intervention or personal discipline, he explained that it was a combination of both his cancer treatment and the subsequent effects of chemotherapy, which include nausea and prolonged appetite loss.

Through these challenging experiences, Okupe emphasized his spiritual journey and the role his faith has played in his recovery and overall health.

“When I started chemotherapy, I was 127kg, and then I came down to 97kg… the chemotherapy ended and I went back to 103kg

“This is the second time I’m beating cancer, the first time was 16 years ago, which was prostrate and this time it was the soft tissues of my right shoulders.

“In all these, I bear witness to God and Jesus Christ, I’m a testimony to the fact that there is nothing the Lord God Jehovah can’t do. From now on, I have become an evangelist and a witness for Christ.”
