The Chairman of the Katcha local government area in Niger State, Danlamin Abdullahi Saku, was reportedly attacked by hoodlums following a dispute over a debt he owed to a creditor, Alhaji Yanda.
The incident occurred after a message was conveyed to him demanding repayment of the debt, which escalated into a physical altercation when the chairman allegedly slapped one of the messengers.
According to reports, the chairman was beaten severely by individuals said to be his party supporters, who were dissatisfied with his failure to repay a debt of approximately N1 million. This debt was purportedly borrowed to finance his political campaign, through which he secured his position as council chairman.
Following the attack, the chairman was initially taken to General Hospital Katcha and later transferred to another undisclosed hospital for further medical attention due to the seriousness of his injuries. The incident has been confirmed by the Niger State Police Command, which is conducting preliminary investigations and seeking to apprehend those responsible for the assault.
Confirming the incident, the state Police command through the Public Relations Officer (PRO) SP Wasiu Abiodun said on 16th of June, 2024 information was received at Katcha Division that the Chairman Katcha LGA Hon. Danlami Abdullahi Saku was attacked by some miscreants along Saku-Gaza village after the Sallah prayer at his village Saku, Katcha LGA”
“The attack was allegedly reported to be linked to a debt issue between the Chairman and one Alh. Yanda of the same area”.
Abiodun stated that the Chairman sustained serious injury during the attack and he was taken to Gen. Hospital Bida and later referred to another hospital for further treatment.
“Preliminary investigation is ongoing at Katcha Div, while effort is being intensified to apprehend the miscreants who were responsible for the criminal force and assault and causing grievous hurt on the Chairman, ” he further added.
