
One person has been confirmed dead as a forty feet trailer crashed in Onitsha, Anambra State.
The incident occured around the Tarzan Junction axis of the Enugu-Onitsha Expressway, involving two male adults in the vehicle (the driver of the trailer and his conductor).
Confirming the incident in a statement issued on Thursday, the Spokesperson of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in the state, RC Margaret B. Onabe said it occured at about 4:30pm.
According to her, eyewitness account revealed that Christopher Obodieze, the driver of the trailer (commercial Mercedes Actros Truck with registration number: WKR824XA) was cruising with his conductor when suddenly one of the vehicle’s tyres burst, making him to lose control of the vehicle, which consequently crashed on the road.
“Two male adults were involved in the crash. One male adult sustained injury, while the other was killed (the conductor),” she said,
She said that before the arrival of FRSC rescue team from RS5.3 Nteje, the Ogidi Police Division personnel had taken the dead victim to mortuary; while traffic control was on going and the contents of the crashed trailer were being off-loaded.
She said the FRSC Sector Commander, Anambra State, Corps Commander Adeoye Irelewuyi, commiserates with the family of the victim and wishes the injured quick recovery.
According to the release from the State Public Relations Officer, “He urged motorists to ensure their tyres are duly checked before using the road, while also emphasizing the importance of spare tyres on all vehicles.”
