A devastating fire on Sunday, August 11, engulfed the LG office at Abule Osun, Trade Fair, Lagos, destroying goods and electronics estimated to be worth millions of naira.
The Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) confirmed the incident in a statement released to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN). Dr. Olufemi Oke-Osanyintolu, Permanent Secretary of LASEMA, detailed the events, stating that the agency received distress calls through the 767 and 112 emergency lines at approximately 12:15 a.m.
"Upon arrival at the scene around 12:40 a.m., it was discovered that a fire was raging through the LG office warehouse," Oke-Osanyintolu said. "The blaze rapidly spread throughout the facility, consuming equipment, small forklifts, household goods, and electronics valued at hundreds of millions of naira."
While the exact cause of the fire remains undetermined, LASEMA and the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service are working together to prevent further escalation. The agency activated additional fire appliance trucks to aid in the containment efforts.
"There have been no reported fatalities or injuries, but the fire has affected the entire premises," Oke-Osanyintolu added.
The operation to control the blaze is ongoing, with more fire trucks en route to the scene. The Nigerian Army and the Police have also been deployed to assist in the emergency response. All LG staff and responders have been relocated from the premises for safety.
