In a chilling attack late Friday night, suspected bandits targeted the residence of Alhaji Sanusi Ango Gyaza, an aide to the Katsina State Governor, in Gyaza, Kankia Local Government Area.
During the violent raid, Gyaza, a former Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Teachers (NUT) for Kankia LGA, was killed alongside his wife. The attackers also abducted Gyaza's other wife before fleeing the scene.
The Katsina State Police Command has yet to provide further details. ASP Abubakar Sadiq Aliyu, the spokesperson for the command, stated, "I will get back to you," when contacted by SaharaReporters.
In a separate incident, over 20 medical and dental students, along with a House Officer, were kidnapped in Benue State while traveling to the Federation of Catholic Medical and Dental Students (FECAMDS) annual convention in Enugu. The students, hailing from the University of Maiduguri and University of Jos, were ambushed by gunmen around 5:30 p.m. in the Otukpo area of Benue State.
The Benue State Police Command confirmed the kidnapping on Friday morning, raising alarm about the safety of the students. Among the abducted is a House Officer identified as Dr. Louis. The kidnappers have reportedly demanded a ransom of N50 million for their release.
