The Nigerian Army has intensified its crackdown on illegal oil refining activities, destroying more than 115 illegal refining sites and arresting 22 suspects in a series of operations across the Niger Delta region.

In a statement released on its social media platforms, the Army detailed its recent achievements, which include the destruction of 66 boats and the recovery of 27 stolen pipes, four pumping machines, and five illegal connections. In addition, over 170,000 litres of stolen petroleum products were confiscated, along with other illegal refining equipment.

In Bayelsa State, troops conducted targeted operations in the swampy Ibidi area, Twon Brass, and near the Agip Terminal in Brass Local Government Area. During these operations, one illegal refining site, a generator, a pumping machine, and a large wooden boat containing approximately 90,000 litres of stolen refined products were intercepted.

Further operations in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area led to the deactivation of multiple illegal refining sites. In Igbomotoru, two sites were dismantled, and a wooden boat containing over 2,000 litres of stolen crude was seized. Similar actions in Opotoma and Isinugbene resulted in the confiscation of over 2,500 litres of stolen crude.

The Army's statement also highlighted a significant operation in the Okarki forest, where troops destroyed an illegal artisanal refinery and confiscated over 5,000 litres of stolen crude. Additionally, at the Imo River, a notorious hotspot for illegal refining activities, the Army destroyed 79 illegal refining sites and 59 wooden boats, recovering over 40,000 litres of stolen products.

These operations are part of the Nigerian Army's ongoing efforts to combat illegal oil refining and protect the country's oil infrastructure from criminal activities.
