A tragic accident on the Lagos-Abeokuta expressway claimed the lives of two children late Saturday night, when a Toyota Camry veered off the road in a lone crash at Kere Itori, Ogun State.

The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) spokesperson, Mrs. Florence Okpe, confirmed the incident in a statement released on Sunday. The accident, which occurred around 11:00 p.m., was attributed to speeding, and the vehicle, with registration number AGL 36 JA, was found to be overloaded with passengers.

According to Mrs. Okpe, a total of nine individuals were involved in the crash, including seven men, one male child, and one female child. Both children tragically lost their lives, while the adult passengers sustained varying degrees of injuries.

"The accident was caused by speeding, and unfortunately, it resulted in the deaths of a male and a female child," Mrs. Okpe said. The injured victims were swiftly taken to the General Hospital in Ifo for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased children were transported to the morgue.

Mrs. Okpe urged motorists to adhere to traffic regulations, emphasizing the dangers of speeding and overloading vehicles. The FRSC continues to advocate for safer driving practices to prevent such tragedies on the nation's roads.
