Prophet Kumchacha, leader of Heavens Gate Ministries, has sparked controversy with his recent endorsement of polygamy, asserting that it is not a sin according to biblical teachings. Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz on September 14, 2024, Kumchacha argued that the Bible does not explicitly forbid men from having multiple wives.
Contrary to popular belief, Kumchacha contends that only the Apostle Paul suggested monogamy as a preferable choice for men, and this should be viewed as advice rather than a strict directive. He stated, “Marriage has its issues, so I always tell men to marry at least two or three women if they want to live long. Dealing with just one wife can be challenging.”
He further claimed that if he were blessed with substantial wealth, akin to that of notable figures like Kwame Despite or Ofori Sarpong, he would also practice polygamy. “As a prophet, I challenge any pastor to present a Bible verse from Genesis to Revelation that condemns having more than one wife—it doesn’t exist,” Kumchacha declared.
Kumchacha also addressed Paul’s counsel in 1 Timothy, suggesting that it should not be considered a rigid rule. He drew a parallel with Paul’s instruction in 1 Corinthians 14:34, which prohibits women from preaching in churches, a directive that many modern churches do not adhere to.
His statements have ignited debate among religious communities, with some supporting his interpretation and others questioning the implications of his views on traditional Christian teachings.
