Nollywood actor and human rights activist Yomi Fabiyi has announced plans for a peaceful protest in honor of the late singer Ilerioluwa Promise, popularly known as Mohbad.
The protest, set for September 30, 2024, will take place at the gates of the Lagos State House of Assembly.
In a statement released a week after the one-year remembrance of Mohbad’s tragic death,
Fabiyi expressed deep frustration over what he called efforts to cover up the case and bury critical evidence.
He claimed that those responsible for the death of the popular singer are spending millions of naira to manipulate the investigation and create distractions.
“It is imperative that we mount legitimate pressure and protest peacefully at the gate of the Lagos State House of Assembly on the 30th of September, 2024,” Fabiyi declared, urging the public to join the movement.
He called for action from Lagos State representatives, demanding they establish a committee to investigate the circumstances surrounding Mohbad’s death.
Fabiyi highlighted the alleged existence of CCTV footage inside and outside the singer’s residence, suggesting that the footage may have been stored remotely.
He criticized the authorities for not retrieving the data, raising concerns about transparency in the investigation.
“We are so sure the CCTV cameras inside and outside Mohbad’s house were working, and they store remotely… why the police did not wish to retrieve it can be very frustrating,” Fabiyi stated. He also pointed to the builders and security of the estate where Mohbad lived, insisting they may hold crucial information regarding the case.
The peaceful protest is being organized under the hashtags #JusticeForMohbad and #BreakTheSilence, with Fabiyi urging attendees to wear black tops and white armbands.
“COME ONE, COME ALL, AND LET US SPEAK IN ONE VOICE,” Fabiyi added.
