A disturbing incident in Surulere, Lagos, has surfaced involving the alleged extortion of ₦1 million from three National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) members by police officers. The event was shared on X (formerly Twitter) by Oluyemi Fasipe, who posted videos capturing parts of the encounter.

In the videos, police officers are seen inspecting the car documents of the corps members, but the situation quickly escalated. More officers joined the scene, issuing threats to the occupants. At one point, an officer entered the corps members' car, preventing them from filming or contacting their loved ones. The officer also ordered them to hide their phones, allegedly in an attempt to intimidate and silence them.

Fasipe shared the video with the caption: "Dear @BenHundeyin, Your officers today in Surulere extorted 1 million naira from 3 corps members.

"They were threatened with firearms, kidnapped, and taken to the KAFARU OLUWOLE TINUBU HOUSE AREA C POLICE COMMAND of the @LagosPoliceNG where they were robbed.

"Their offence was the absence of a physical copy of a driver's license. This is evil!"

This incident has sparked outrage online, with many condemning the actions of the police and calling for accountability. As of now, there hasn't been an official statement from the police regarding this matter.

Unacceptable, if true. But one must ask where NYSC members got N1M cash from.
