The local government elections in Rivers State were held on October 5, encountering numerous challenges, including allegations of obstruction by former governor Nyesom Wike. Despite these hurdles, candidates from the Accord Party (APP) emerged victorious, while the collation of results continues in the Etche Local Government Area.

Justice Adolphus Enebeli, Chairman of the Rivers State Independent Electoral Commission (RSIEC), announced the results at the commission's office in Port Harcourt. He noted that the election took place across 6,866 polling units and involved participation from 18 political parties.

Enebeli characterized the election process as smooth, safe, and transparent, asserting that it was free of violence and described it as one of the most significant local government elections conducted in the state, despite the various challenges faced.

The successful candidates include Vincent Reuben Obu for Abua/Odual, Chibudom Ezu for Ahoada-East, Iyekor Ikporo for Ahoada-West, Tonye Oniyide for Akuku-Toru, and Lazarus Gogote Nteogwuile for Andoni, among others. The complete list of elected officials also features Dr. Sule Amachree for Asari-Toru, Dame Anengi Barasua for Bonny, Dr. Harry Agiriye for Degema, Chief Brain Gokpa for Eleme, David Omereji for Emohua, and Monday Dumiye for Gokana, to name a few.

Other elected representatives include Isreal Abosi for Ikwerre, Martins Nwigbo for Khana, Amb. Chijioke Ihunwo for Obio/Akpor, Prince Isaac Umejuru for Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni, Ishmael Oforibika for Ogu/Bolo, Dr. Igwe Achese for Okrika, Promise Reginald for Omuma, Enyiada Cookey-Gam for Opobo/Nkoro, Gift Okere for Oyigbo, Ezebunwo Ichemati for Port Harcourt, and Matthew Nenubari Dike for Tai.

The ongoing collation process in the Etche Local Government Area will determine the final outcomes as the RSIEC continues its oversight of the electoral proceedings.
