The Lagos State Government has demolished some shanties where tenants pay a yearly rent of N100,000 in Ajao Estate Canal bank.

This was made known in a statement by the state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, shared on the X platform on Friday.

Wahab wrote, “In continuation of concerted measures to reduce the scourge of environmental infractions and illegal encampment in public spaces, the Lagos Environmental Sanitation Corps (LAGESC) popularly known as KAI on Thursday demolished 138 shanties around the canal bank in Ajao Estate Canal where illegal occupants pays between N60,000 to N100,000 rent.”

Recall that in May that Wahab said the government discovered an apartment under the Dolphin Estate Bridge, Ikoyi, where tenants paid N250,000 annual rent.

According to the commissioner, the under-bridge apartment had 86 partitioned rooms, sized “10×10 and 12×10”.
