A Nigerian woman recently shared a story on social media about how she resorted to having her estranged husband deported from the United States after he allegedly abandoned her and their three children, leaving her to bear the financial burden alone. Her decision followed a series of revelations and escalating frustrations that, she said, left her with no other choice.
According to her account, her husband initially moved to the United States to pursue a two-year academic program. During that time, they kept in frequent contact, and she didn’t pressure him for financial support, understanding that he was focused on his studies. However, after completing his program and securing a job, his attitude reportedly changed, with limited financial assistance and eventually complete withdrawal from communication.
The woman further disclosed that when she traveled to his hometown to address the issue with his family, she was shocked to discover a house being built on his family’s land, which she suspected he was funding. Confronted by her husband’s family with no support, she says she sent her husband a long message about their responsibilities. His response was reportedly dismissive, suggesting she could either remarry or send the children to his mother’s care.
Feeling abandoned, she gathered documentation of their marriage and their children’s birth records and approached the U.S. embassy, informing officials of her situation. Since her husband had reportedly claimed to be single during his visa interview, and with his visa already expired, the embassy took action, resulting in his deportation back to Nigeria.
Upon his return, she ended the marriage formally, with her family returning his bride price. According to her, her husband’s family has since labeled her actions as “witchcraft,” while she remains resolute, explaining that her brothers have now taken over financial responsibility for her children.
The story has stirred considerable debate online, with some supporting her decision to hold her husband accountable, while others criticize the extent of her actions. As her account continues to circulate, the incident has sparked discussion about marital obligations, family accountability, and the far-reaching consequences of neglect.
