The Port Harcourt Refining Company (PHRC) has not commenced bulk sales or activated its purchase portal, as critical operational processes remain ongoing, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) announced on Friday.
In a statement released by Olufemi Soneye, NNPC’s Chief Corporate Communications Officer, the company confirmed that products currently sold are sourced from the Dangote Refinery. Soneye added that any changes in pricing or operations would be officially communicated to the public.
The 60,000-barrel-per-day (bpd) capacity Port Harcourt refinery recently began trucking petroleum products following its rehabilitation. However, some petroleum marketers and Nigerians have raised concerns about pricing structures and operational transparency.
The Petroleum Products Retail Outlet Owners Association of Nigeria (PETROAN) also stated that no new pricing template has been introduced by PHRC. The association confirmed that it is still purchasing Premium Motor Spirit (PMS) at existing prices while awaiting official updates.
“Products from PHRC are currently reserved for our retail outlets, and pricing adjustments are made periodically based on operational realities,” the statement read.
NNPC also advised the public to disregard unverified reports about pricing, emphasizing that any price review will be communicated through official channels.
The development underscores ongoing efforts to streamline operations at the Port Harcourt refinery as Nigeria works to enhance its domestic refining capacity and reduce dependency on imports.
